CALL TO ACTION AT BOTTOM OF BILL: PLEASE READ UNTIL THE END!
Today, February 13, 2008, there will be at least 4 people to appear to
oppose the bills and one of them wishes to testify. It makes a HUGE
difference if you can appear and testify or just be present to oppose
or support the bill.
These are the other bills which will be heard this week. If you wish
to testify, but have never done it before or don't know what to say to
help us best, you can call me so we can arrange a time so I can
prepare you to testify.

February 14, 2008:
8:30a.m. Senate Courts of Justice will hear HB 14, which would deny
ADMITTANCE of undocumented to Universities. STUDENTS & OTHERS
INTERESTED IN TESTIFYING AGAINST HB14 WHICH WOULD DENY ADMITTANCE OF
UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS TO UNIVERSITIES (YOU TOO: ORANGEL!!!), MEET ME
AT 8:00 a.m. TOMORROW, THURSDAY, IN SENATE ROOM B, so we can arrange
our speakers (because sometimes they don't give us time to ALL speak).
My cell (804) 714-7428. Gabby & Laura: please call other students
who you have contact with to see if they wish to participate!!!
2:00 p.m. Senate Transportation will hear HB891, which would give
police discretionary power to arrest for driving without a license
(and Virginia denies driving license to undocumented immigrants!). It
will be heard in Senate Room B.
4:00p.m. Senate Courts of Justice, civil subcommittee, will hear HB729
which would keep many undocumented persons from being able to be
married. It will be heard in Senate Room A.
February 15, 2008:
8:30a.m. Senate Rehab & SS, Senate Room B, will hear HB651, which
provides for re-entry provisions for those being released from
incarceration; THIS IS NOT AN IMMIGRATION RELATED BILL, BUT IT IS A
BILL GREATLY AFFECTING THE BLACK COMMUNITY WHO IS PUT IN PRISON AT A
MUCH HIGHER RATE THAN ANY OTHER MINORITY COMMUNITY DUE TO PROFILING. I
HOPE THAT MANY OF YOU CAN SHOW UP TO SUPPORT THIS BILL WHICH ASSISTS
THOSE RELEASED FROM INCARCERATION HAVE A HOPE OF A CHANCE TO REALLY
RE-ENTER SOCIETY AND NOT JUST THROW THEM OUT WITH NO MEANS OF
SUBSISTENCE OR OF BECOMING PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY. Please
remember we have to fight for other group's causes because it is the
right thing to do and because we need to ensure that the pain being
inflicted on us not be inflicted to others: IN SOLIDARITY!
12:30p.m. House Courts of Justice, House Room C, may hear HB441 which
would prohibit law enforcement from asking the status of victims and
witnesses of crime; however, it is more likely it will be referred to
criminal subcommittee. This is a very important bill and we will need
ALL YOUR SUPPORT to pass it and make our communities safe. This bill
will probably go to subcommittee, but we need your help STARTING NOW:
We ask that you call the members of the committee & not just for the
subcommittee because we will want ALL their votes to pass this.
CALL TO ACTION !
HELP US PASS SB441, WHICH WOULD PROHIBIT LAW ENFORCEMENT FROM ASKING
THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF VICTIMS AND WITNESSES REPORTING CRIME.
PLEASE INSIST THAT YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND ACQUAINTANCES ALSO CALL;
ALL LEGISLATORS KEEP DETAILS ON HOW MANY PEOPLE CONTACT THEM ON EACH
ISSUE. EVERY SINGLE CALL MAKES A DIFFERENCE SO I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
FOR YOUR HELP!
When we call, you can say: "I am [name], I am from [city], I ask the
Delegate to support SB441, which would ensure that Victims and
witnesses of crime feel safe reporting crime without being questioned
on their immigration status. Help us stop violent criminals and make
Virginia safer by ensuring that victims and witnesses of crime are
able to report it. Thank you!" Remember you can call any time, even
during the night and leave a message.
