Subject: Outrage: What BRO is doing and how you can help
To: Sarah Newchurch <miss.sarah.andrea.amy@gmail.com>
Dear Sarah, Please help us get the word out - use this link to forward
this email to five friends.
As you have likely heard, Federal Judge Michael Mosman granted a
temporary restraining order delaying the implementation of Oregon's
domestic partnership law. The restraining order blocks the law pending
a February 1 hearing to address the plaintiffs' complaint in Lemons v.
Bradbury that elections officials should have reconsidered invalidated
signatures submitted in a failed referendum attempt in September.
While Judge Mosman's ruling does not repeal the law, the restraining
order will cause needless and irreparable harm to the committed
couples who were depending on the law taking effect on January 2.
We at Basic Rights Oregon are dismayed by the judge's action, and ask
that you spread the word by forwarding this email to your friends and
family, so they can learn the details surrounding this miscarriage of
justice and join you in taking action to help put this important law
back on course.

The Lemons v. Bradbury lawsuit is an outrage. It's an eleventh hour
effort by out-of-state interests to keep gay and lesbian Oregonians
from critical and necessary rights, and it is shameful. We believe the
lawsuit has no merit, but that does not lessen the disappointment and
sorrow this unnecessary delay has caused for committed same sex
couples, their families, friends and allies.
Basic Rights Oregon staff and legal advisers are already working
around the clock, preparing for the hearing on February 1st. We plan
to take every available legal action and will be aggressively involved
in righting this wrong. Make no mistake - BRO will continue to be
there every step of the way until caring, committed same-sex couples
have the rights and protections Oregon's domestic partnership law is
meant to ensure.
Please forward this email right now to your friends and family. Ask
them to take the same actions you have: By making a contribution to
the legal fund today, you can do your part to help get our domestic
partnership law back on track. This is a temporary setback and we
won't give up now - too many LGBT Oregonians and their families are
counting on us!
